At last, Cyberpunk 2077 has officially launched for the PlayStation 5. CD Projekt Red faced several delays while adapting its RPG to current-generation platforms, but the wait is now over. However, some players who already own the game on PS4 are having trouble figuring out how to upgrade it to the PS5 version. The process can be a little bit tricky, especially considering how Sony’s new console arranges your library. That’s why we’re here to help explain how to upgrade your PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 to the PS5 version.
How to Upgrade Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 to PS5 Version
There are two different ways to upgrade your PS4 copy of Cyberpunk 2077 to the PS5 version. The simplest way is to find the game in your Game Library. Once selected, you’ll be asked which version of the game you want to view. Choose the option labeled PS5, then select the option to download the PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077.
If you already have the PS4 version installed, or if you have the game disk inserted, you can take another route. Highlight Cyberpunk 2077 from the main screen, open the extra options menu, then select the View Product option. From there you’ll be able to manually upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 edition.
Basically, as long as you own Cyberpunk 2077, your PS5 will allow you to select between the two versions. The key difference is to make sure you install the one optimized for the PlayStation 5. If you ever have trouble distinguishing between the two, look for the platform labels. PS4 labels are white-on-black, while PS5 labels are black-on-white.
As promised by the developers, ownership of the game grants you access to both versions for free. The confusing bit is that both editions technically run on the PS5. This is one of the odd quirks of living in between console generations.
You can upgrade Cyberpunk 2077 from the PS4 version to the PS5 version through the Game Library. All you need to do is look for the PS5 edition, then either install the game or update your copy. Just be sure to set a little bit of time aside, as the next-gen update version 1.5 is a hefty 50GB download.
