Call of Duty ATS: Auto-tactical sprint in CoD explained

Call of Duty: Vanguard and CoD: Warzone are the series’ latest entries to feature the auto-tactical sprint option. But, what exactly does the Call of Duty ATS setting do? Why has there been controversy surrounding its use in professional esports play? Here’s the need-to-know info on the Call of Duty automatic tactical sprint feature for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

The Call of Duty auto-tactical sprint (ATS) setting allows users to automatically run at max speed by moving forward. Enabling automatic tactical sprint in CoD: Vanguard and Warzone makes users much faster, granting a potential advantage over other players.

While Activision doesn’t outright ban the use of ATS in the Call of Duty League, professional players have a “gentleman’s agreement” not to utilize the setting. This has been a cause of controversy with some pros facing accusations that, in spite of common practice, they utilize the automatic tactical sprint option anyway.

For any player that isn’t a professional, however, there are no repercussions to enabling the CoD ATS setting in-game. In fact, it’s easy to recommend this option to anyone that wishes to improve their movement and reaction times in Call of Duty: Warzone, Vanguard, or other franchise entry.

Call of Duty: How to enable and use ATS in CoD

  1. Navigate to the Settings menu in-game.
  2. Switch to the Controller options tab.
  3. Set the Automatic Sprint setting to Automatic Tactical Sprint.
  4. Matchmake, then move forward during gameplay to ATS.
