Photoshop is a complex tool, though many users are finding that one of its most basic features is broken. The Photoshop can’t paste image glitch is preventing users from easily importing images into the editing software. So, is there a quick and easy fix? Here’s the lowdown on a solution to the C&P error affecting both Adobe Photoshop and PS Elements users in 2021.

How to fix the Photoshop copy and paste bug

Here’s what to do after encountering the Photoshop can’t paste image issue:

  1. Close and re-open the Adobe Photoshop application.
  2. Download and install Photoshop updates:
    • Click “Help” in the top navbar.
    • Select “Updates…” from the list.
    • Wait for the Adobe Application Manager to run a check.
    • If applicable, opt to download and install the new update.
  3. Uninstall, then reinstall Adobe Photoshop or PS Elements.
  4. No luck? Manually save and open images instead.
  5. Take a print screen (Fn + PRT SC), then paste and crop the image in Photoshop.

Hopefully, any one of the first three steps is enough to solve the issue. That isn’t always the case, however; two GameRevolution staff members routinely experience this issue while running different versions of Photoshop. In such a situation, utilizing the manual save and/or print screen methods is the way to go.

Make sure to check for Photoshop updates frequently, as it’s possible that a future patch will contain an official fix. Until then, adding images to Photoshop will continue to require slightly more effort than it really should. The same goes for Adobe Photoshop Elements users, as the bug seems to impact both versions of the image editing program.
