The Doom Eternal Dark Lord boss fight is unlike the other fights in the game. He not only counters almost every move the player makes, he also heals quite often. He also drops some pretty heavy narrative bombs on the player during the battle. Here’s how to beat the Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods Part 2 Dark Lord boss fight.
Doom Eternal Dark Lord boss fight strategies
The Dark Lord boss fight is like fighting a super Marauder. He has a lot of the same strengths, meaning he will block almost everything you throw at him. But he’s also a lot like the Slayer and will heal after hitting you as well as when you shoot him without stunning him first. Because of this, be careful where you shoot and never shoot at him without stunning him first. He can easily heal about half of a health bar if a shot isn’t properly timed.
Stay relatively close to him at about mid-range. Stay too close means he will swipe at you and being too far means he will shoot at you. When at mid-range, he will most likely do his attack where he glows green for a quick second. When he does this, shoot him with the Super Shotgun.
Learning how to quick switch weapons is essential here. Quickly switching back and forth between the Super Shotgun and Ballista after one shot of each will cut down on the recovery frames and allow for faster damage output. The Sentinel Hammer is also great here, too, as it will stun him longer, especially if it has been fully upgraded. So it’s Super Shotgun to stun, then an immediate hammer slam, and then quick switching back and forth until he snaps out of it. The other weapons, including the BFG and Unmakyr, aren’t very effective. Glory Kills refill the hammer and the summoned dogs also drop charges when killed.
The strategy remains fairly simple throughout. At first he just summons one dog, then two, then two and a Hell Knight. Deal with them immediately with grenades and shotgun blasts. They drop hammer charges and will just annoy you during the fight.
He has two melee sword attacks where he doesn’t glow green. Always dodge to backwards because these moves have deceptively long ranges and can score him some easy health. Sometimes he will do a second attack from his swipe, too, so don’t be too fast to go in after the first.
The Dark Lord gets a shield bash in the second big phase. Quickly dodge to the side when this happens as dodging backwards is basically useless. His shield will glow shortly before he charges.
He’ll also start shooting grenades in this phase. Just be sure to quickly dash out of their way once he shoots them.
He starts summoning large demon spirits in the final phase. Take it slow and use bigger weapons on them without hitting the Dark Lord himself. Be sure to Glory Kill the zombies around the arena when in a pinch.
Learning his pattern can take time, but doing so will make this fight rather easy.
