White-Faced Varre is the first NPC players meet in Elden Ring as they exist the Stranded Graveyard and start the game proper. Varre is one of the ruder individuals that we’ll become acquainted with (however, he’s been toned down since the closed network test), but completing his questline can be quite helpful. Here are all the locations Varre appears in and how to finish his story.
Elden Ring Varre Questline Locations
Varre introduces himself in Elden Ring by insulting the player and calling them maidenless. However, his questline gives early access to one of the best Rune farming spots in the game, so it’s worth taking his lip.
First Location: First Step Site of Grace, Limgrave
Players will have a hard time missing Varre’s first appearance. He’s the first thing they’ll see as they exit the Stranded Graveyard. Speak to him until he exhausts his dialog to ensure he makes it to the next location.
If players are curious about what Varre thinks of their journey through Limgrave, they can come back for some new dialog. He won’t actually move until players defeat Godrick the Grafted and visit the Roundtable Hold at least once.
Second Location: Rose Church, Liurnia
South of Raya Lucaria Academy, players will find Rose Church. Varre will be hanging out by the front door. He serves as the introduction to invasions and will give players the Festering Bloody Finger so they can invade other players’ games. To trigger his next dialog, players will have to invade other players three times. Thankfully, it doesn’t matter if these are victories are losses.
After three invasions, Varre will ask players to join forces with the Bloody Lord, Mohg. Once players agree to “fly straight and true,” the invitation he’ll give them a Lord of Blood’s Favor and ask them to soak it in maiden’s blood. There are three ways to do this:
- Soak the favor in the blood of the corpse at the Church of Inhibition, which is northeast of Raya Lucaria Academy.
- Return to the Chapel of Anticipation through the gateway at The Four Belfries and soak the favor in the blood of the corpse in the church.
- Kill Hyetta and soak the favor in her blood.
Once the favor has been soaked, players should return it to Varre and have them anoint them to receive a Bloody Finger (which can be used indefinitely) and the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Using this medal will transport players to a hidden underground area, Mohgwyn Palace. Players will find themselves at the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance Site of Grace, and from there, it’s not too difficult (depending on how far you are through the game) to make it to the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace, which is where the best Rune farm in the game is located.
Third Location: Near the Mausoleum Dynasty Midpoint Site of Grace, Mohgwyn’s Palace
Near the Mausoleum Dynasty Midpoint Site of Grace in Mohgwyn’s Palance, players can find Varre’s invasion sign. He’s not too tough, but he does use attacks that cause bleed, so players need to watch out lest they lose a big chunk of HP.
What do you get for completing Varre’s questline in Elden Ring?
Taking him on will earn players his unique weapon, Varre’s Bouquet. However, players will need to fight the Nameless White Mask invaders found in the grounds around the palace to get his armor.
His full armor set is:
- War Mask
- War Surgeon Gown
- War Surgeon Gloves
- War Surgeon Trousers
Unfortunately, we don’t get to learn much more about Varre. He was Mohg’s surgeon and was the only one to survive being initiated into the Mohgwyn Dynasty.
