The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC releases keep coming over two years since its release and the Nintendo Direct for February 2021 will give players a peak at the next fighter. However, Nintendo was quite vague and did not give details, prompting people to wonder what the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character would be.

Nintendo has not announced the identity of the upcoming new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character. The company will reveal the mystery fighter sometime during the Nintendo Direct on February 21, 2021 at 2 PM PT. While the exact details of the stream are unknown, it will be around 50 minutes total, leaving plenty of time for players to welcome in this new challenger.
But even though there has been no official word on who it could be, there are, of course, some rumors to sift through. One 4chan leak alleges that it could be Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, the Doom Slayer from Doom, or Rayman from his self-titled series. None of them have made their debut in the platform fighter before and have all been video game properties first.
Even though anyone can make a fan list, and this could be one as well, this one has some more validity to it since it correctly predicted the other three characters in the leak: Sephiroth, Min-Min, and, Steve from Minecraft. This post was made in May before any of those characters were officially unveiled, meaning that there’s likely some merit to this proposed roster or that it was just extremely lucky.
Regardless, these are all likely candidates. The first Ninja Gaiden trilogy began on the NES in 1988. Doom’s relationship with Nintendo doesn’t go back that far, but both recent titles have made it to the Switch alongside the four other main entries. All of the Rayman games and Raving Rabbids spin-offs have also been on Nintendo hardware as well. Rayman is even a guest character in Brawlhalla, another platform fighter.
