Among Us Age Rating | Is it safe for kids?

What is the Among Us age rating? Is it safe for kids? Like Fortnite and Fall Guys before it, Among Us is the latest gaming phenomenon amongst children. Is the game appropriate for a young child, though? Here’s whether to not it features any questionable content.

Among Us age rating

Among Us features colorful characters that look innocent enough on the surface. That being said, they do engage in cartoon violence as can be seen in the images found within this parental guide. The depiction of violence isn’t very realistic, so whether or not that’s an issue depends on the age of the child in question and the stance of their parent(s).

In the United States, Among Us is rated ESRB 10+ for fantasy violence and mild blood. Elsewhere, the game has a PEGI 7 age rating for mild violence and an Apple App Store rating of 9+. The Among Us Apple age certification notes themes of horror and fear, alongside the aforementioned mild fantasy violence.

It’s worth noting that Among Us is not a horror game in the traditional sense, though its central theme of sabotage can make for tense online interactions. Players don’t know which users to trust, as some are teammates and others are impostors working against them. When randomly cast as an impostor, there’s also pressure for players to deceive other users.

On that note, Among Us is an online game and user communications are not rated. This means that, although the Among Us age rating is ESRB 10+, the interaction between players has the potential to be explicit. If a child is playing Among Us with friends this shouldn’t be an issue. When entering into an online match with strangers, however, there’s a chance that they’ll be exposed to inappropriate language.
