What is the Genshin Impact Pity System? Popular JRPG Genshin Impact is entirely free to play on PC, PS4, iOS, and Android. Microtransactions serve to fund the game, allowing players to engage in optional gacha mechanics. This form of randomized item acquisition is similar to loot boxes, though the Pity System in Genshin Impact ensures that players eventually get the rarest gear. Find out how exactly the Genshin Impact pity mechanic works in this guide.
Genshin Impact Pity System | How does it work?
Gacha mechanics can easily lead to disappointment and frustration. Since users have no control over the payouts, purchasing luck-based MTX is a gamble that can either pay off or fall flat. Knowing this, some developers implement a failsafe to ensure that unlucky users eventually turn things around.
The Genshin Impact Pity System guarantees that a player will be granted a 5-star item after 90 consecutive pulls without receiving one. After just 10 pulls without gaining any 4-star loot, players are guaranteed an item of 4-star rarity on their next pull. If at any point an item of either rarity is awarded without triggering the pity system, the respective counter will reset to zero.
For example: If it takes 40 consecutive gacha pulls in Genshin Impact to receive a 5-star character or weapon, the Pity System counter will reset to zero. The 39 unsuccessful attempts don’t carry over because the player got lucky — the game isn’t required to take pity on that user anytime soon.
Actually triggering the Pity System Genshin Impact mechanic will take a long time, and, since it works in the background, most users will never even know if and/or when they do. Still, it’s an appreciated gesture from developer miHoYo that should help unlucky players to get more bang for their buck.
