If you’re playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the same Nintendo Switch console as a friend or family member, then it probably won’t take long to realize that the options available to each player aren’t entirely equal. One of the main things you might notice is the difference in options available when talking to everybody’s favorite tanooki taskmaster, Tom Nook in Resident Services. So, why is the Animal Crossing: New Horizons “let’s talk infrastructure” option missing? Stick with this Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch guide to learn everything you need to know about talking infrastructure with Mr. Nook.
Why is the New Horizons ‘Let’s talk infrastructure’ option missing?
Whichever person plays Animal Crossing: New Horizons on any given Nintendo Switch console first — naming and choosing the island layout in the process — is designated as the primary player for that island. This means that while up to eight people can enjoy the game on the same Nintendo Switch console, only the primary player will have access to all of the available customization features, including the “let’s talk infrastructure” dialogue choice.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons ‘let’s talk infrastructure’ option missing
- Visit the Resident Services building.
- Sit at the “construction consultation counter” in front of Tom Nook.
- The “Let’s talk infrastructure” option will appear if you are the primary player.
- The “Let’s talk infrastructure” option will not appear if you are player 2-8.
If you’re player 2-8, then it’s normal (if still disappointing) that you can’t access this feature. Nintendo likely didn’t want to give every player the power to make significant decisions when it comes to island layout, or the opportunity to cause confusion by moving buildings around. As well as being unable to move buildings, the lacking “let’s talk infrastructure” option means that players 2-8 are also unable to construct bridges and/or staircases.
