As with most social media, Twitter is an open platform where users are free to reply to tweets from friends and complete strangers alike. Although this can be a good thing, encouraging a sense of community and fostering balanced discussion, a few bad eggs can make unwelcome and unwarranted replies. In these instances, you’ll want to know how to hide Twitter replies in order to keep your tweets free from anything inappropriate. Here’s everything you need to know about hiding replies on Twitter.
How to hide a reply to your tweet
If you’re the original author of a tweet and receive an unwanted reply, you can hide (and later unhide, should you choose to) the message without notifying the author of the offending reply.
How to hide Twitter replies
- Open up Twitter
- Navigate to your profile page
- Locate the tweet with the reply you wish to hide
- Select the down arrow to the right of the relevant reply
- Locate, select, and then confirm the “Hide reply” option

Can people still see hidden replies?
It’s important to note that hiding a reply doesn’t remove it completely. The original tweet you authored will gain a hidden replies icon in the lower right portion, which can be selected in order to read any hidden tweets. This is likely a precaution to prevent users from too tightly controlling their message and/or quelling valid concerns or criticisms from other members of the Twitter community.
Keeping this in mind, if you’d like to unhide a hidden reply it’s possible to do so by following these steps.
How to unhide Twitter replies
- Open up Twitter.
- Navigate to your profile page.
- Locate the tweet with the reply you wish to unhide.
- Select the down arrow to the right of the relevant reply.
- Locate and select the “Unhide reply” option.
