Mortal Kombat 11 Crossplay | How does cross-play work?

Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay (or “Krossplay” as it is officially called) is a brand new addition to the game and it dropped out of nowhere. So how does MK11 cross-play work? Does it work with every platform? Let’s look at everything we know about Mortal Kombat 11 cross-play.

Mortal Kombat 11 Crossplay | Platforms

Mortal Kombat 11 cross-play works between PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This is only in certain online modes though. Essentially, it’s available in every casual mode but not ranked or Kombat League. NetherRealm has also stated that the “Krossplay feature in Mortal Kombat 11 will not support PC, Nintendo Switch or Stadia at this time.”

Mortal Kombat 11 Crossplay | How to enable cross-play

Mortal Kombat 11 Crossplay | How does cross-play work?

NetherRealm stated that you have to opt into cross-play. This will a little toggle switch on the menu when you hover over the Kasual matches in the online menu. While it is not in the above screen shot, it is likely to be where the red box is. You can tell what players are from the opposite console because they will have two crossed arrows on their player card.

Mortal Kombat 11 Crossplay | What modes support cross-play?

For now, MK11 only supports Kasual modes. These include:

  • Versus
  • King of the Hill
  • A.I. Only
  • Special Krossplay Rooms

These special Krossplay rooms will allow you to play against the other console and set up Kasual Versus matches. This is how you’re going to be able to play with friends on the other system so you need to coordinate with said friend outside of the game to be able to find them. It’s not exactly seamless but it’s a start.

This also does not include Kombat League. That could change in the future but you will not be able to do ranked sets using Krossplay. Private Versus, Private Kustom Lobby, and Private Practice will also not work with Krossplay.

Sadly, your progress does not carry over between systems. Your purchases also do not transfer. That will likely not change.
