The PS5 Adaptive Triggers are a new feature that is coming in the PlayStation 5. Now that Sony’s next-generation console has been announced, gamers will surely be curious as to what cool new features we’ll be getting for this upcoming home gaming device. Sony has been pretty light on the details so far, but it did reveal some information about one particular part of the PS5: The DualShock 5 controller or, as it is now known, the DualSense (which you can read more about here).
As with previous generations, Sony is going to be introducing a new controller to go hand-in-hand with its next-gen console. The company haven’t yet said if it’s going to be called the DualShock 5, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the name it went with. One of the new features for this controller regards the PS5 Adaptive Triggers, a special button design that is going to be further enhanced by haptic feedback.

The post on the PlayStation blog that confirmed the release window of the PS5 also revealed some details about what we can expect from the DualShock 5.

Firstly, the PS5 Adaptive Triggers are going to be special enhancements integrated into the L2 and R2 buttons. What exactly will these do? Well, developers will be able to program a sort of “resistance” for the triggers, meaning that you could need more or less trigger to push the button down. These adjustments can be made to fit what you see on-screen; as an example, a more powerful bow with a higher draw weight might give you more pushback on the PS5 Adaptive Triggers.
These Adaptive Triggers will work hand-in-hand with the new haptic feedback feature, an upgrade that is going to totally replace the older “rumble” technology found in current and past DualShock controllers. The combination of the two techs will mean that the DualShock 5 is going to feel much more immersive than its predecessor.
