Smash Ultimate Stage Builder – Can You Make Custom Stages?

Smash Bros Ultimate is finally here, and fans of the franchise are immersing themselves in all that the latest entry has to offer. Something that appears to be missing on launch day is the Smash Ultimate stage builder though. So, is it available for players to make their own custom stages or not?

What is the Smash Ultimate Stage Builder?

First introduced in Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii, the stage builder allowed players to make their own stages by using any stage parts that were found in the game. Stages could take the form of three sizes – small, medium, and large – and could be customized with a certain background and in-game soundtrack too.

Sample stages had been installed by Nintendo to give gamers an idea of what aesthetic to go for as well. Once a player had finalized their custom stage, they could upload it to the Brawl server, and allow other players to randomly select them during online matches.

Is There a Smash Ultimate Stage Builder?

Unfortunately not. There’s been no word on this feature being implemented by any of the Smash Ultimate team, and players who have already loaded the game up have confirmed this.

It does seem a tad strange that Nintendo wouldn’t include a stage builder feature in Smash Ultimate. After all, it was used in both Brawl and Super Smash Bros for the Wii U, so this is the first entry in the series since Melee not to include it. Whether that was down to a lack of interest from the majority of the fanbase is up for debate, but it isn’t in the game right now. It could be patched in during a future update, and Nintendo is certainly working on post-launch content, but for now players will have to do without.
