The Elder Scrolls 6 – Release Date Rumors, Platforms, Multiplayer, Everything We Know

At E3 last June, Bethesda revealed The Elder Scrolls 6, the latest game in their best-selling open-world fantasy RPG series. It’s been seven years since The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and we’re eager to find out more. But how much do we know about the new game? Do we know The Elder Scrolls 6 release date? Is there a trailer? Will there be multiplayer? What rumors are there about the game? Read on for everything we know.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Release Date

At the moment, we have no idea when The Elder Scrolls 6 will release. Since Bethesda’s Doom Eternal also does not have a release date, but has had gameplay revealed and a lot of details, we should not expect the next Elder Scrolls for several years.

However, in an E3 interview with Geoff Keighley, director and executive producer Todd Howard stated that the studio’s other RPG Starfield would actually release before The Elder Scrolls 6. Starfield was also revealed at Bethesda’s E3 conference, and similarly does not have a release date. Howard stated that Bethesda has “pre-production with a smaller amount of people until a game is really there, and then when we enter production we move the bulk of the studio to that game. I would say Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and Starfield is in production.”

So don’t expect this game for a long time.

The Elder Scrolls 6 News

The official announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6 and the trailer was the biggest official news the game has received. Todd Howard confirmed the game was in pre-production, and the team has also decided where the game is to be set. The trailer apparently gives some clues to this setting. Other than that, we probably won’t have any solid news on the game for a long time.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Rumors

The most exciting rumor comes from the reveal that Bethesda has trademarked the name “Redfall” for a game. This ties into the rumor regarding the game’s setting, which may be Hammerfell.

While there is no location called “Redfall” in the Elder Scrolls world (at least, not at the moment), Hammerfell is the home of the desert warriors the Redguard, who at the time of Skyrim had just repelled an invasion by the Aldmeri Dominion and led Hammerfell to independence. It is possible that the name ‘Redfall’ is connected to both the Redguard and Hammerfell. Maybe they took control of Hammerfell, or an area of it, and gave it the name Redfall

The Elder Scrolls 6 Platforms

The Elder Scrolls 6 has not been confirmed for any platforms as of yet. However, it’ll most likely appear on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC along with support for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Bethesda has been known to put its games on every platform under the sun, which means it could also show up on the the next generation of hardware. Although Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein 2 all came to the Switch, it’s probably not likely that The Elder Scrolls 6 will come to that piece hardware. It’s not completely out of the question but the power gulf between the PS4 and Xbox One might be too great to properly run this game. And since it is coming after Starfield, it might not even be on the PS4 or Xbox One.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Trailer

There has been one trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 so far. Bethesda Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard showed the trailer during its announcement at E3 2018. It was a quick tease of the camera going over the landscape but it was something nonetheless. It will undoubtedly get another trailer at some point in the future but it’s just a matter of how far into the future.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Multiplayer

No other mainline Elder Scrolls game has had multiplayer. While there is always room for more innovation, it’s still likely that the game will focus primarily on single-player content as that is what the series is known. Multiplayer isn’t out of the question but this is a mainline title and a little less likely to go in as heavily into multiplayer like the spinoff, Fallout 76.

Bethesda knows of the worries that the studio is moving away from multiplayer. To calm those fears, VP of Marketing Pete Hines told FZ.se told players that the company is still focused on single-player games while not abjectly stating that The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t have online functionality.

“[The announcement] also helps convince folks, like, look, this is not forever-more what we’re doing,” he said. “We are going to do a game that’s just single-player next time around, and yes, we are going to get to Elder Scrolls 6,” Hines said. “There’s going to be a long time before we’re ready to talk about what those are, because we want the time between when we start to talk about it and it comes out to not be two years long or three years long. But it just gives folks a better idea of where we’re headed and understanding what the studio is working on and trying to do.”

However, Bethesda was hiring for a someone with “experience developing for online multiplayer environment.” This does not confirm anything but it shows that Bethesda may be trying to look into to the future and add some online connectivity. Fallout 76 might be the first step into that territory and maybe that game’s success will help shape or inform Bethesda on what to do with The Elder Scrolls 6.
