Ah, E3. That magical time where new games aplenty are announced. One of the games that captured the hearts and minds of millions was Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 6. All we got was a brief teaser trailer. This was enough to set off endless amounts of fan theories on all sorts of aspects. One such area of discussion is: Where is Elder Scrolls 6 set? Todd Howard already knows.
While the Elder Scrolls 6 release date is way off, it hasn’t stopped fans wanting to know absolutely everything about the game. The setting, however, is perhaps the most important aspect of an Elder Scrolls game. Just where is the mountainous, coastal area we got the briefest of looks at during the teaser? Todd Howard knows exactly where it is, but he’s not sharing… yet.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Howard says that they know where we’ll be exploring and questing and that it was decided “a while ago”. The teaser was intentionally created to urge on discussion. “You can rule some things out. And you can rule some things in.” Howard wants the discussion to take place so Bethesda made the reveal rather vague.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Setting: High Rock or Not?
When directly asked whether or not we’ll be playing in Hammerfell, Howard responded: “I’m not going to answer where it’s set!” Dang. “The first thing we do is the world so we’ve known for a while where it’s set”, says Howard, who argued that announcing the game so early on made “life a little bit easier” for Bethesda.
“We had already said publicly, ‘We are eventually going to do Elder Scrolls 6 but we have these other projects…’ and we felt like we would be saying that same thing right after E3 at something like this [Gamelab], so let’s make sure our fans know this is coming, and in what order. They don’t know what years – we have some ideas but we’re not positive either – but ‘here are the things we’re going to be doing’.”
Howard appreciates that there are positives and negatives surrounding the timing of video game announcements, but a healthy discussion is always a positive. “We’re not saying a lot… I worry about what happens in the future when people say, ‘Well when am I going to hear about it again?’ and then you’re saying, ‘I can’t tell you’.”
Hopefully, we learn more of Elder Scrolls 6 soon. What are your thoughts on The Elder Scrolls 6 setting? Any ideas of The Elder Scrolls 6 release date? We think we might be returning to High Rock – but have no idea when. Sound off in the comments with your ideas!
