The Frozen Wilds

Horizon Zero Dawn DLC Length Estimate and Start Guide: How to Start The Frozen Wilds and How Long is the DLC?

Horizon Zero Dawn has now released its first and only DLC expansion The Frozen Wilds today. With it comes a brand new area to explore, mysteries to solve, and new machines to mount and destroy. However, starting The Frozen Wilds DLC can be a little confusing due to absolutely no direction from Horizon Zero Dawn on what to do upon booting it up.

When you first jump into Horizon Zero Dawn after downloading and installing The Frozen Wilds DLC, you will simply pick up right where you last left off. There will be no new quest marker, pop up text, cutscene, or anything to guide you towards how to start this new DLC expansion. The only noticeably new feature is the unexplored land in the northeast corner of your world map. We’ve got you covered, though, as this is how to start The Frozen Wilds DLC in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Horizon Zero Dawn The Frozen Wilds DLC Start Guide: How to Start The Frozen Wilds DLC

The Frozen Wilds DLC World Map

There is a prerequisite to starting The Frozen Wilds DLC. You must have completed at least the main Horizon Zero Dawn quest called “A Seeker at the Gates.” We recommend you be at least level 30 to complete that quest and to start the DLC.

There are three new quest givers that do not show up on your world map unless you are close to them. Speaking with any of the three will start the correct quest to access The Frozen Wilds DLC area called The Cut. Here are their locations:

  • Rhavid can be found just southeast of Meridian near the border of the city and the surrounding forest. The relatively easiest one to find.
  • Ohtur is located at Daytower near the border of the mountains and desert. He is somewhat out of the way so we don’t recommend going to him.
  • Yariki can be found just outside The Cut DLC area, north of the Grave-Hoard. We also recommend her, since she is located right where you are already planning to go.

Collect the quest “Into the Frozen Wilds” from any of them and you will be good to go.

Horizon Zero Dawn The Frozen Wilds DLC Length Estimate Guide: How Long is The Frozen Wilds DLC?

Horizon Zero Dawn’s new DLC The Frozen Wilds adds a whole new area of the Banuk tribe to explore. The various new story quests, side quests, and errands will greatly lengthen the core experience of the main game.

As such, completing most of the new content added to Horizon Zero Dawn with The Frozen Wilds will roughly take you around 15-20 hours to complete, adding upon the already lengthy 40-50 hour main game.
