With PlayStation-exclusive blockbusters coming to PC, some players are wondering if they’ll ever get to play Horizon Zero Dawn on Xbox. After all, it’s a game that’s compatible with Windows, which is made by Microsoft, the same as the Xbox. So, it’s not a logical leap to assume that Horizon Zero Dawn might get an Xbox release date someday.
Will Horizon Zero Dawn release on Xbox?
There’s currently no release date for Horizon Zero Dawn on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. It was ported to PC by Virtuos and released on that platform in August 2020. However, no additional ports have been announced.
No PlayStation exclusive has been ported to Xbox in the past, and there’s no reason to think that would change. Consoles sell primarily based on their exclusives, and there’s no advantage for Sony to bring Horizon Zero Dawn to a rival console.
The reason Sony exclusives are being ported to PC is that it’s not in direct competition with the PlayStation. PC gamers aren’t likely to purchase a console just for exclusives, and Sony would rather make some money off of PC than none.
However, there is a workaround for Xbox owners that will allow them to play Horizon Zero Dawn on the console. Users can download the Microsoft Edge browser onto their Xbox console and use a cloud gaming platform to stream the game to their console. Of course, this isn’t going to work as well as a natively installed game, but players can connect a keyboard and mouse to their consoles and play through the whole game. The Edge browser is compatible with GeForce Now, so if a player owns a game on Steam or Epic Game Store, then loading it up should be easy.
So, players shouldn’t expect to see any Sony exclusives on Xbox anytime soon. However, using cloud gaming might be a way to get past this limitation.
