Battlefield 2042 Season One: Zero Hour Brings Chaos to the Canadian Rockies

After many delays, Battlefield 2042 Season 1 is finally set to launch this week. Season One: Zero Hour will add a new Specialist called Ewelina “Lis”, new weapons such as a rocket launcher, two new stealth helicopter vehicles, a new map called Exposure, and a brand new Battle Pass. In preparation for the season launch, Update 1.0.0 will also be rolled out today containing “hundreds of changes, bug fixes, and Quality of Life improvements”.

The new content we expect from Battlefield 2042 Season One

Battlefield 2042 Season One will add a new Polish Specialist called Ewelina “Lis”, who is otherwise known as the Guardian of Gdánsk and is a vehicle-killer expert. Her Speciality is a G-84 TGM Rocket Launcher that fires player-guided projectiles. She also has the Armor Hunter skill that lets her radar spot enemy vehicles within a set range.

A new map called Exposure will be set amongst the extreme vertical terrain of the Canadian Rockies. The map will offer ground-to-air battles on Black Ridge as well as close-quarters combat in areas like the command center. Two new stealth helicopter gunships will be added. Both the RAH-68 Huron and the YG-99 Hannibal will have room for a pilot and a single gunner. There will also be plenty of new weapons, including the Ghostmaker R10 Crossbow, the BSV-M Marksman Rifle, and the Smoke Grenade Launcher.

The new Battle Pass will include 100 tiers of rewards. Free players will get up to 30 rewards including access to Lis, weapons, vehicles, and cosmetics. Those who buy the Premium Battle Pass can access an additional 70 rewards including the Legendary “All-Seeing Eyes” & Angel Specialist Set, Legendary “Light Bringer” & AC-42 Weapon Skin, “Ghost Assassin” & Background, and “Omniscient” Tag that are received instantly upon the purchase of the Pass. Those who purchased the Year One pass will automatically be granted access to the new Specialist and the Premium Battle Pass.

Finally, Update 1.0.0 will be released today and includes a large list of changes, bug fixes, and Quality of Life improvements ahead of the Season One launch on June 9. You can see the highlights of the update below, although if you want a full list of changes you can check out the patch notes on the EA website.

  • Multiple improvements to soldier gameplay which will result in overall smoother animations and movement.
  • Weapons received updated netcode to improve bullet hit registration. We’ve also done a further balance pass which includes increased projectile speeds for DMR’s and LMG’s, and improved accuracy for Shotguns.
  • Multiple new XP events have been added, such as for killing an enemy who recently wounded or killed a squadmate, or when an enemy vehicle you recently damaged is destroyed by a teammate and the occupants are killed
  • The number of available in-world vehicles has been increased for Conquest which should make it easier to move across the map
  • Sundance’s Wingsuit has been adjusted to lower overall flight time, while making it easier to maneuver. To simplify their Specialty, the EMP Field Smart Explosive has been removed

In other news, Blizzard Entertainment’s response to Diablo Immortal has been criticized as disingenuous. Elsewhere, the Diablo Immortal pay-to-win backlash continues after a streamer spent $4000 in real money and failed to get a 5-star Legendary Gem.
