Phasmophobia | All ghost strengths and weaknesses
Each Phasmophobia ghost type has a different list of strengths and weaknesses. Knowing how to deal with each type will help ghost-hunting teams avoid being hunted,
Spirit
- No unique strengths
- Weaknesses:
- Smudge Sticks
A Spirit is the most common type of ghost in Phasmophobia. This doesn’t mean it isn’t a handful, however. Players should find Spirits at the sites of their unexplained deaths. While a Spirit has no particular strengths, they are weak to Smudge Sticks. Use a Smudge Stick on a Spirit and it will stop attacking for a relatively long period of time.
A Spirit Box, Fingerprints, and Ghost Writing are evidence of a Spirit.
Wraith
- Strengths:
- Wraiths cannot be tracked by footsteps
- Weaknesses:
- Toxic reaction to Salt
A Wraith can fly, meaning you cannot track them with footsteps. Wraiths can travel through walls, too. Have some Salt on you to help with a Wraith attack; Wraiths don’t love Salt. Fingerprints, Freezing Temperatures, and a Spirit Box is evidence of a Wraith.
Phantom
- Strengths:
- Simply looking at a Phantom will dramatically lower your sanity
- Weaknesses:
- Photographing a Phantom
Phantoms can possess the living, commonly summoned by an Ouija Board, instilling fear into anyone nearby. Remember to not look directly at a Phantom and set up your camera to take a photo (this will make it temporarily disappear). EMF Level 5, Ghost Orbs, and Freezing Temperatures are all evidence of a Phantom.
Poltergeist
- Strengths:
- Poltergeists can throw many different objects at once
- Weaknesses:
- Empty rooms
Poltergeists can throw objects and generally cause a ruckus. Get one in an empty room, however, and they are a lot easier to deal with. Spirit Boxes, Fingerprints, and Ghost Orbs are evidence of a Poltergeist.
Banshee
- Strengths:
- Target one player at a time
- Weaknesses:
- Fear of the Crucifix
A stalker of its individually chosen prey, a Crucifix nearby a Banshee will make it less aggressive. EMF Level 5, Fingerprints, and Freezing Temperatures are all evidence of a Banshee. Knowing how to use the Crucifix will help here.
Jinn
- Strengths:
- Jinns are faster when players are far away from them
- Weaknesses:
- Turn off the location’s power source to stop a Jinn from using its ability
Fast, territorial ghosts. A Spirit Box, Ghost Orbs, and EMF Level 5 are all evidence of a Jinn.
Mare
- Strengths:
- Increased chance of attacking in the dark
- Weaknesses:
- Light sources (turn the lights on, use torches, etc…)
Make sure you turn the lights on as this ghost is stronger in the dark. A Mare’s evidence is a Spirit Box, Ghost Orbs, and Freezing Temperatures.
Revenant
- Strengths:
- When hunting a victim, it is quick, faster than anything
- Weaknesses:
- Hiding from a Revenant makes it move very slowly
A slow, violent ghost that picks up tremendous speed when hunting its prey. Remember to hide. Revenant evidence is EMF Level 5, Fingerprints, and Ghost Writing.
Shade
- Strengths:
- Shyness makes it hard to find
- Weaknesses:
- If there are multiple players nearby, a Shade will not enter into hunting mode
A shy ghost, make sure to travel in a group. Evidence of a Shade is EMF Level 5, Ghost Orbs, and Ghost Writing.
Demon
- Strengths:
- Demons attack more than any other ghost type
- Weaknesses:
- Ask Demons successful questions on the Ouija Board
- This won’t lower a player’s sanity
- Ask Demons successful questions on the Ouija Board
Demons are the most aggressive ghost. Ask it good questions to avoid lowering your sanity. Evidence of a Demon is a Spirit Box, Ghost Writing, and Freezing Temperatures.
Yurei
- Strengths:
- Strong effect on a player’s sanity
- Weaknesses:
- Smudge the room of a Yurei to stop it wandering around the location for a long time
Yureis have a big effect on your sanity, remember to Smudge the room it’s in to stop it wandering around for some time. Evidence of a Yurei is Ghost Orbs, Ghost Writing, and Freezing Temperatures.
Oni
- Strengths:
- More active when players are nearby
- Can move objects at great speed
- Weaknesses:
- More active players will make an Oni easier to find and identify
Another strong ghost that is more active when more players are around it. Evidence of an Oni is EMF Level 5, Spirit Boxes, and Ghost Writing.
