Nintendo Aims To Sell 9 Million Wii U Consoles Over The Next Year

Nintendo must have some killer Wii U software it's planning to debut at E3, as the company is expecting a major turnaround this year for the tablet-centric console.

The Big N released its year-end financial results, and current hardware sales for the Wii U aren't particularly great. The gaming box has only sold 3.45 million since launch. Meanwhile, total Wii sales are just shy of 100 million and sales for the DS have reached a staggering 153.87 million. The 3DS hasn't been doing too shabby either, with a total of 31.09 million units sold.

That said, Nintendo doesn't want to simply rest on the laurels of its handheld hardware, as the company expects the Wii U to sell a good 9 million units over the next year, along with 38 million sales in software.

We know Nintendo has a new 3D MarioSuper Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Wind Waker HD on the (hopefully) not too distant horizon, but will these be enough? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
