A new Splinter Cell game could be in development if a hint in the new Assassin’s Creed is anything to go by. A tweet was posted earlier showing a section of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, where a room has Sam Fisher’s goggles on top of a box.
The character did show up in a cameo appearance in Ghost Recon Wildlands earlier this year, where Sam’s speech gave the impression that something was coming. A subsequent interview with Michael Ironside in a later Inside Xbox show added fuel to the fire when he also hinted that Sam was coming back.
Rumors of a new Splinter Cell game swirled around E3 2018 but it wasn’t announced, leaving fans disappointed. This is especially odd given that the infamous Walmart Canada leak displayed a new Splinter Cell game alongside many of the games that turned out being announced like Rage 2.
The last game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist was released way back in 2013, and so fans of the series have been clamoring to see a new entry with Sam Fisher in once again. Not many other stealth games have filled in Splinter Cell‘s absence since Blacklist, especially ones with highly trained spies. Metal Gear Solid, in its previous form, most likely won’t fill that role either since Konami seems to have no will to make a new one. This vacuum sets the stage for Splinter Cell to rise again.
But this could all mean nothing, as Ubisoft own both the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell franchises, alongside Raving Rabbids. A Raving Rabbids character was also in the same room as Sam’s goggles, and with the latest DLC of Donkey Kong recently out for Mario’s Raving Rabbids, it could just be a nod to past franchises.
But whatever the case, Ubisoft is definitely aware of the demand for the return of Sam Fisher.
