Turtle Beach Kone II Review

Turtle Beach Kone II Review

The Turtle Beach Kone II bucks the trend of mice that cut weight at all costs, instead opting for a more sizable, ergonomic option that will please those with larger hands and who think comfort is a bigger priority. It’s refreshing to see a product with this priority in 2024, but how has it fared during my testing?

Built to perform

Let’s first dive into the specs. The Kone II uses the Owl-Eye 26K optical sensor, meaning it’s highly responsive and dependable. It’s up there with the best sensors around, capable and competitive.

The seven customizable buttons can be programmed with additional functions using the EasyShift[+] feature. This makes for a total of 23 different functions that can be mapped to the various buttons.

The scroll wheel also deserves a nod, as it has tilt functionality. When I’m moving between mice for testing, a tilt scroll wheel is always one of the features that I miss the most. It’s great for games, but also for navigating websites and spreadsheets.

Lasting the distance

With its TITAN optical switches rated for 100 million clicks, the Kone II is built to survive the test of time and many, many gaming sessions. The switches are clicky and tactile, too, so no mushiness to worry about.

Turtle Beach hasn’t skimped on the feet either, with PTFE used for a smooth glide. It’s exactly what you want to see from a modern gaming mouse.

Ideal for larger hands

Turtle Beach Kone II Review

The biggest win for Turtle Beach’s Kone II is its size. This is a mouse that feels great in larger hands. In a market where companies are working on cutting weight and gradually making mice smaller and smaller, it’s great to see Turtle Beach releasing something a little larger and more comfortable.

While yes, I’m a big fan of the Logitech G Pro X Superlight for fast-paced shooters, that mouse isn’t so comfortable to use for hours on end in more casual games like Diablo IV or Borderlands 3.

I’m a big fan of the size and design, with a well-thought-out button layout that allows for a wide range of options. The EasyShift[+] feature lets me map everything I need to the mouse, allowing my fingers to stay on WASD for better control.

Customization within the app is simple, too, with mapping and RGB lighting easy to personalize.

The main downside

Turtle Beach Kone II Review

When it comes to downsides, the Kone II has an obvious potential flaw in its focus on larger-handed, comfort-first users. It is simply quite a large mouse that those with smaller hands may struggle to use. It’s also a little heavier than the esports-focusing competitive mice out there, which could be a dealbreaker.

Final Verdict

For $119.99 — or $69.99 for the wired version — the Kone II is a great choice for those who value comfort and versatility over extreme lightness. With its ergonomic design, reliable sensor, and customizable buttons, it’s well-suited for gamers with larger hands or those who prefer a more substantial feel. While it may not be ideal for high-speed competitive play, it offers solid performance and durability for a range of gaming needs, filling a unique spot in the current market.
