FlexiSpot E9 Standing Desk Review

The FlexiSpot E9 standing desk is the company’s attempt at combining exceptional stability, superior sturdiness, strong load-bearing capacity, impressive durability, and intelligent operation into its November 2024 release. On paper, it could be the complete package, ready for those looking to start 2025 on the right foot, with a desk that promotes moving between sitting and standing. How has it fared during my review process? Here’s my verdict.

Specs overview

FlexiSpot E9 review

Perusing the specs, I was immediately happy to see the max height of 128.5 cm which, as a taller user, can often be a dealbreaker. Thankfully, FlexiSpot offers enough extension. Another spec that caught my eye, but for a different reason, was the 55kg total weight. This is a sturdy bit of kit and, because of that, it’s pretty heavy.

Upon delivery, it became clear that two people would be best for the build process. While it’s certainly possible to build this alone, it becomes much easier with an extra pair of hands.

Let’s build it

FlexiSpot E9 review

The standing desk legs and desktop surface were well-packaged and there was no damage to the outer packaging. This was good to see, as I’ve previously had issues with companies not protecting large items well enough and/or couriers not taking enough care.

With all of the components unboxed, it was time to start the build process. This is a fairly simple affair, as the provided instructions make it tough to go wrong. The toughest part for me was rotating the desk the right way up. Again, this is much easier if you have another person to assist.

Oh, it can lift

With it built and ready to go, users can then admire the various features on offer and start putting their computer, laptop, and other components onto the desktop. With the E9’s motors capable of lifting 180 KG, users can go wild with loading the desk up. My desk features my PC case, two monitors on a monitor arm, printer, lights, and a smattering of peripherals.

A highlight of the E9 is the keypad. This version boasts the expected simple Up/Down Movement control, but also four memory profiles, a Child Lock, a digital height display, and a USB charging port.

The anti-collision system is also worthy of mention, as the desk can detect if it’s lowering down on top of something. It will then stop to avoid crushing that item.

Color choices

FlexiSpot E9 review

Though the E9 standing desk frame is available in black or white, users can add a bit more color or material choice by the selection of desktops. FlexiSpot currently offers nine different desktop options, though users are free to combine the frame with a third-person desktop. This may require drilling new screw holes, but that’s a relatively simple task.

Some niggles

FlexiSpot E9 review

When it comes to downsides, I have very few complaints. FlexiSpot has done well to improve stability at the highest heights, so taller users can rest easy. Obviously the weight of the desk is significant, which can make moving it between rooms a bit of a nightmare, but I imagine most users will be building and leaving it in a single location.

When it comes to the buy price, FlexiSpot regularly has discounts available. In the case of this E9 desk, at least for the UK, there’s currently a “Pre-order Promotion” where code BFMEDE9 takes £220 off the RRP. I’d expect to see similar discounts in other regions.

Final Verdict

At the £399.99 ($500) pre-order price, the FlexiSpot E9 offers solid value. It’s a desk that impresses in all of the important areas and I’m certain those working from home or building a new gaming setup will love it. For £599.99 ($750), however, the E9 competes with many other premium products, with even FlexiSpot having some great desks at a lower price point. My advice is: If the price is right, then the E9 is a great product that will deliver a fantastic experience.
