BattleBlock Theater Is The Perfect Cartoony Chaser For Your AAA Shooter

Our review of BattleBlock Theater is live now and it truly is the best XBLA release in months, hands-down. It's light, fluffy, great in spurts, and more than anything else, beautifully animated. Characters running around, walloping each other, and getting impaled on spikes or drowning in shallow water have all the impact of Saturday morning cartoons… before, you know, Saturday morning cartoons had to go all PG.

The premise here obviously serves the gameplay more than anything else, but The Behemoth proves their art department can do no wrong. Get zapped by a laser? Watch your body get turned to ash. Need to pull that boat over so you can get across the water? Paw at it like a tiny kitten.

I didn't play much of Alien Hominid, but Castle Crashers was a must-buy when I got my Xbox 360, but even my girlfriend couldn't keep away from a controller when she saw BattleBlock's graphics and platforming gameplay in action. I love the thick lines, fast action, and catchy soundtrack.

Dear oppresive cat God, please let The Behemoth release the soundtrack by itself.
