The Battleblock Theater beta will begin on February 28th, and only 10,000 registrants will actually make it in, which means you might want to drop your name into the gigantic hat The Behemoth have for this kind of process. The Behemoth, if you don't recognize the name, are the developers behind Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid, essentially the collective brains from Newgrounds, minus the less than savory elements you might find on the flash-game site.
Battleblock Theater is, of course, the studio's upcoming game! When I saw it at PAX Prime all the way back in 2011 I wrote that:
At first it might seem a little boring, but Battleblock Theater challenges you to work cooperatively with your partner, all while tempting you to let them fall to his or her death. That said, I killed my partner by stepping off a switch that controlled a disappearing platform more than three times in a row. (And then once more again.)
And both of us loved it. Once my partner made it across, I died by accident before reaching the next checkpoint, leaving me at his mercy on the same disappearing platform. My co-op frenemy cackled evilly, knowing full well what kind of position I'd gotten myself in.
I'm already registered for the beta, but I've gotta cross my fingers that I'm actually selected. Battleblock Theater's animations and pure-platforming madness mean it's shaping up to be another stellar downloadable title from The Behemoth. Why don't you help with the process of bringing it to launch by registering for the beta at the studio's site?
