November is chock full of major releases this year, with Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Soul Calibur 6. Given all the hype and the looming holiday season, major console manufacturers will undoubtedly try to push their machines and services to reach even more consumers. With both Sony and Microsoft offering free games with their online services (PS Plus and Xbox Games with Gold, respectively), what better way to entice people by showing off some of each console’s best games? Keeping all of this in mind, the following is a list of titles that we predict may be featured in either service’s catalog in November.
November Games with Gold and PS Plus Predictions: The Big Ones
The newest entries in Bethesda’s Wolfenstein franchise, The New Order and The New Colossus, have seemingly flown under the radar of a lot of gaming fans since their release in 2014 and 2017, respectively. Steam user data from earlier this year has indicated that sales have been sluggish for the latter entry on PC, at least. November would be the perfect time for the series’ publisher to offer either of these games on Sony or Microsoft’s services.
The Old Blood would also be available as a standalone smaller chapter to anyone who enjoyed the first game and want to play more. Another standalone episode called Youngblood is also launching sometime next year. Offering The New Order or The New Colossus on PS Plus or Games with Gold would serve as the perfect buildup to Youngblood or whatever the series has in store next.
Of course, Sony and Microsoft could dip into their exclusive libraries to entice more people to buy their consoles. The former may finally offer Killzone: Shadow Fall or Knack in the west, two of the PlayStation 4’s first-party launch games. The Order 1886 is also on the table, possessing incredible graphics that perfectly show off what Sony’s machine is capable of, even if it wasn’t a critical darling.
Microsoft could use this strategy and offer Gears of War 4 in November. This would entice people who’ve not yet purchased a console from the Xbox 360 era to make the jump, especially if they enjoyed the series last generation.
There’s also the possibility for Mass Effect Andromeda to show up on PS Plus or Games with Gold next month, given how N7 Day is on November 7. Seeing as how the franchise managed to garner a huge following last generation, this could warrant some praise from the current generation’s install base who missed out the title last year.
November Games with Gold and PS Plus Predictions: The Indies
Fall kicks into full gear in November, so what better way to celebrate that than with an indie title that has plenty of autumn charm to spare? Night in the Woods is the perfect narrative-driven game to play when the sun sets early in the day and you just want to stay in and drink some cocoa. It explores themes like transitioning into adulthood and mental health; two topics that come up frequently during this time of year. Its characters are also immensely relatable and down to earth, filling the room with a familiar warmth that feels right at home during the fall.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is also appropriate for the month, as one could easily lose him or herself in the beautiful, crisp autumn flora scattered across the game’s open world environments. Of course, there’s a larger gameplay premise to be enjoyed in the form of a mystery surrounding the small town of Red Creek Valley and its inhabitants. It offers thoughtful puzzle-solving mechanics that could serve a departure from all this month’s action in the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Black Ops 4.
There’s always a possibility that a JRPG might pop up in November, too. Any one of the Danganronpa or Disgaea games could show up on Sony’s service, offering many hours of strategic fun while we all wait for the warm weather to come around again.
There’s a good possibility that we probably won’t get to all of whatever is being offered next month. Every so often, it’s a good thing to remember the games we already have, lest our backlogs become too daunting to face anymore. We just have to get to these games before our subscriptions lapse.
