Will Injustice 2 Learn From The Character Reveal Mistakes of Mortal Kombat X?

With the Injustice 2's May 16 release date just around the corner (although some tip-toeing games writers still aren't sure what to make of Boon's obvious Tweet), we're sure to see some more character reveals on the horizon.

But, rather than focus on who that might be, we should remember how horribly mishandled the character reveals for Mortal Kombat X were. First there was the leak that accidentally revealed Predator and then there was NetherRealm's own description of their Kombat Pack that revealed Jax. Finally, and most egregiously, despite actively avoiding showing anything involving Liu Kang and being tight-lipped when asked about it, the same description revealed Liu Kang.

So the real question is "has NetherRealm Studios learned their lesson?"

Injustice 2 already has a great roster of new and returning characters, with the new ones including Supergirl and Deadshot, but there are so many more potentials on the horizon, including potential returning heroes such as Batgirl, or new and heavily-hinted-at heroes like Spawn.

Really, I'm sure that any mix of new and returning heroes to fill out the roster will be positively met, as Injustice 2 is a hotly anticipated title that will hardly be undone by a disappointing roster. But, NetherRealm could really take the steam out of their hype train with another ham-handed character reveal schedule like they showed with Mortal Kombat X.

Sure, they don't have to make some big spectacle out of every announcement, especially for returning characters, but they also should give certain character reveals the weight they deserve. Spawn, for instance, would be a huge announcement, with Spawn having never really been in a good video game before. I mean, hell, I might as well have this story pre-written just in case: "Spawn makes triumphant return to gaming in Injustice 2."

Give me a cool reveal trailer, a'la Kratos's reveal in Mortal Kombat (2011), or a stinging teaser that leaves me wanting more. Avoid the leaks, avoid accidentally revealing your own characters, and the folks and NetherRealm might get the pampering they deserve aboard their Super-Man-like hype train.

We'll find out shortly, I'm sure.
