Nintendo has promised to add new characters to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U /3DS , and even launched a "Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot" several months back to poll fans on who they'd like to see join the game's massive roster. Voting ends on October 3, so if you haven't already submitted your choice, head over here and do so now !
Before the poll closes and Nintendo announces the next character (or two… or three) that will be added to Smash 4 as DLC , we took the time to amass a list of the top 10 characters we'd like to see join the roster.
Give it a look below, but just know there are loads of other characters worthy of inclusion that we simply couldn't squeeze in. As such, be sure to sound off with some of your picks that didn't make our list in the comments below. I'm sure you can think of at least one or two… or twelve.

3. Bomberman
We got Pacman. We got Sonic. Heck, we even got Mega Man and Ryu! So, it only seems fitting that Konami and Hudson Soft's Bomberman gets his fair due with a slot on the Super Smash Bros. roster. rn rnNot only has the bomb-tossing character appeared on a number of Nintendo consoles, he also perfectly fits the look and feel of Nintendo's popular brawler. He's cute, but also packs a mean punch. Honestly Bomberman just makes too much sense to not be included.
7. Dixie Kong
Both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are represented in Nintendo's popular fighting game, so why leave out the hair-twirling Dixie? I don't know about you, but Dixie is my favorite Kong character and totally deserves a spot on the roster. Her inclusion just makes too much sense. rn rnOther characters like Lanky Kong, Cranky Kong, or even Funky Kong would be fantastic inclusions as well, but if there's only room for one more Kong, it's gotta be Dixie.
6. Isaac
The protagonist of the Camelot's popular role-playing series would be a worthy addition to the roster for a number of reasons. Sure, Isaac may look a bit like a Fire Emblem character (which we already have too many of in Smash Bros. ) but he boasts a really interesting suite of abilities that would translate well to Nintendo's fighter. Move Psynergy anyone? rn rnThe character has been represented as an Assist Trophy, but it's about time Nintendo fans get to take full control of the character. We've waited long enough.
2. King K. Rool
This big bad made a name for himself back on the Super Nintendo with the Donkey Kong Country series, and definitely would serve as a nice addition. After all, Smash Bros. could always use another "heavy" character and King K. Rool fits the bill better than any other candidate out there. rn rnIt's been far too long since we've seen the Kremlings get some proper representation, with the reptilian foes being conspicuously absent from both of Retro Studios' DKC titles. It's time, Nintendo. Bring back K. Rool!
10. Paper Mario
While we already have Dr. Mario and good old standard Mario, his paper-thin interpretation is just different enough to merit inclusion as well. The decision to include Mr. Game & Watch back in Super Smash Bros. Melee was a genius move, and there's no doubt the series could use another flat character. rn rnHe's got that trusty hammer to wallop his foes and could kick a shell or two across the battle field as a long-range attack. That said, the Mario additions should really end there. Nintendo, we really don't need Metal Mario, Gold Mario, or Silver Mario on the roster. Paper Mario will suffice.
5. Shantae
The half-genie hero who guards the folks of Scuttle Town is undoubtedly at the top of many Smash Bros. fans' wishlists. And for good reason. Shantae's character design is super cute and unique, distinguishing itself from the rest of the characters out there, while still fitting really well within the general Nintendo aesthetic. rn rnHer trademark "Hair Whip" move would be a fantastic attack option, and her transformation abilities open a wide array of exciting possibilities from a gameplay standpoint.
4. Shovel Knight
Yacht Club Games' blew us away with the release of Shovel Knight , a classic throwback to the old school 8-bit platformers of yesteryear. The game stars a knight who's weapon of choice is a shovel! Honestly, it doesn't get much more charming and unique than that. rn rnWhile Shovel Knight has appeared on more than just Nintendo platforms, he's getting his own amiibo and fits visually alongside the Big N's stable of memorable mascots. If he doesn't make it into the game at some point down the line as DLC, I'm sure I won't be the only fan crying into his pillow at night.
9. Tails
While Sonic and Mario used to be fierce rivals, the speedy blue hedgehog and has found a cozy spot on Nintendo consoles following SEGA's exit from the hardware business. As such, Sonic was a shoe-in for the latest Smash Bros. , however his trusty companion Tails still remains waiting on the sidelines. rn rnI don't think this one really needs all too much explaining. Tails would fit in perfectly, and while yes, the likes of Knuckles, Amy, and even Dr. Robotnik would be fantastic inclusions as well, we won't get too greedy. SEGA and Nintendo could always save them for Smash 5 .
1. Waluigi
Poor Waluigi. Luigi's pink-nosed evil counterpart has been snubbed on far too many occasions. Wario joined Nintendo's multiplayer fighter in Super Smash Bros. Brawl , and yet we still haven't heard anything about an inclusion of the company's other mustachioed menace. rn rnWill he finally get his proper due? One can only hope! Though, I wouldn't bet too many gold coins on it actually happening.
8. Andy
Fans of Advance Wars are no stranger to this wrench-wielding mechanic, who serves as the front-facing protagonist in Nintendo's popular tactical handheld franchise. rn rnSo why would he make a great fit alongside the likes of Jigglypuff and Link in the Big N's popular brawler? Well... aside from the fact that he's a criminally underrated character who deserves a bit more of the spotlight, his mechanic-minded skills would make for an interesting lineup of attacks. Plus, he just fits super well visually with the rest of the Smash Bros. roster.
