Nintendo Outlines Mario Kart 8 Amiibo Functionality, Update Coming Next Week

Nintendo has finally lifted the veil on how its NFC-based figurine platform amiibo will function in Mario Kart 8.

According to the game's official website, a free software update will be rolling out on November 13, allowing players to dress up their Mii racers in outfits based on whichever amiibo they choose to scan in.

When the update goes live, Mario Kart 8 will support ten of the different figures. Here's the full list:

  1. Mario
  2. Luigi
  3. Yoshi
  4. Peach
  5. Donkey Kong
  6. Link
  7. Kirby
  8. Captain Falcon
  9. Samus
  10. Fox McCloud

Don't forget that Nintendo is holding a Direct broadcast tomorrow where we'll likely hear more about amiibo and its implementation in Mario Kart 8 as well as a host of other titles.
