Nintendo’s Indie Lead Parts Ways With the Company

Dan Adelman, the guy over at Nintendo of America who spearheaded the company's indie initiative, is no longer at the Big N, he announced today on Twitter.

The man was with Nintendo for nearly nine years, but is now parting ways after having brought iconic indie titles like World of Goo and Cave Story to Nintendo platforms. "Happy to announce I reached an arrangement w/ @NintendoAmerica whereby I can tweet again," he shared this morning. "Arrangement includes my not working there anymore."

A little while back, Adelman got into a little scuffle with his former employer after speaking outwardly on Nintendo's region-locking policies, and I think it's safe to say there's been a little tension between the two ever since.

"I think people were kind of on pins and needles about anything untoward I might say," Adelman told Kotaku. "And every once in a while, I'd give an answer that people didn't like, and some people would freak out, so they tried to scale things back. First they had me do interviews with someone from PR or marketing. Later they just decided that I shouldn't be in the press at all anymore."

He then went on to discuss the story behind his silence on Twitter, saying that "when people started complaining that I wasn't active on Twitter anymore, it was suggested that a PR person could just post in my name. I thought that was about the worst idea I'd ever heard, so I left it as is and let the silence speak for itself."

It appears he intends to continue to work with indie developers, helping studios get their games published on whatever platform they so desire. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors, Mr. Adelman!
