Payday 2 Designer Abandons Triple-A, Starts Indie Studio

While Payday 2 has done well and garnered quite a community of thievery around it, game director David Goldfarb has decided to leave Overkill Software in order to start a studio in Stockholm, Sweden.

Goldfarb revealed the change to Polygon saying "I have decided to move on. It's all on good terms and I think [Overkill] is well positioned to succeed. They're doing great. They'll continue to succeed as the last Steam sales indicate. Super smart people over there."

Goldfarb originally helped to develop the Battlefield series at EA's large DICE studio, but his move gives him further freedom to create whatever kind of game he'd like. "I knew that at some point the thing that I always wanted was to make my own thing. It doesn't matter who I work with: the desire was never to make other people's games, no matter how good they are."

"I felt like I had done everything else," Goldfarb said. "Payday 2 was a big success, the team did great. But for me I was like what am I doing here?"
