Nintendo to Release New Hardware in Emerging Markets in 2015

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that the company will be releasing new hardware in emerging markets as early as next year.

In an interview with Bloomberg, the exec explained that he'd rather use a new hardware strategy than make cheaper versions of what is already on the market. "We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have," he said. "The product and price balance must be made from scratch."

The outlet also asked him about the smartphone market and the company's current stance toward the competition, to which Iwata replied, "The smartphone market is probably more competitive than the console business. We have had a console business for 30 years, and I don’t think we can just transfer that over onto a smartphone model."

Just yesterday, the company released a depressing financial update followed shortly thereafter by a new Pokémon reveal and a preview of its NFC plans.
