Nvidia announced that the RTX 4090 will be up to four times faster than its predecessor, the RTX 3090 Ti. According to the company, DLSS 3 and better ray-tracing performance pair to power the card’s exponential increase in power.
Nvidia claims the RTX 4090 is up to four times more powerful than the RTX 3090 Ti
Nvidia’s claims that the RTX 4090 is up to four times more powerful are currently untested. You should also note that figure comes with a caveat that it’s only that much faster than the RTX 3090 Ti in specific applications. When it comes to gaming, Nvidia says users should only expect twice the performance.
Without benchmarks, we just have to take Nvidia at its word. In the world of PC hardware, every new generation launches with promises of “twice as fast” and “double the performance,” only for us to find out those claims are only valid under very particular circumstances. However, the RTX 4090 might surprise us. DLSS 3 launches alongside the 40 series cards, and since it’s exclusive to the new GPUs, we’ll probably see some fantastic performance in games that support it.
We’re eager (but cautious) to see if the RTX 4090 is all Nvidia says it is. Fortunately, demand for GPUs has plummeted recently, so there’s a chance we might actually be able to find one at its MSRP of $1,599 when the card launches on October 12, 2022.
In other news, Nvidia RTX Remix won’t work with every classic PC game, and the company released a list of the games that’ll be DLSS 3 compatible at launch.
