Viewers finally got a first look at the upcoming Netflix crime thriller movie The Good Nurse. Based on a true story, director Tobias Lindholm’s movie focuses on how nurse Amy Loughren stopped a fellow nurse and serial killer Charles Cullen in his tracks despite her own health problems. However, those hoping for a trailer or specific release date will be sorely disappointed as we still don’t have either, but the date window has been narrowed down for The Good Nurse to towards the end of the year.

The Good Nurse is due to debut on Netflix this Fall 2022 and is based on Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder. The movie will star Eddie Redmayne as American serial killer Charles Cullen and Jessica Chastain as the nurse, Amy Loughren, who finally brings his killing spree to a halt. However, in an interview with Vanity Fair, the cast and director explain how the movie will focus on the lengths Loughren went through to help authorities catch Cullen after the system failed for so long, rather than focus on killer nurse Cullen and the dozens of patients he murdered over his 16-year career. Lindholm explained:
“We had to remind ourselves that everybody was human at any given point, and we did not want to be fascinated with the crimes. I think that was the most difficult part, to maintain the thriller aspect and make it entertaining and thrilling and, at the same time, truthful and human.”
Chastain added: “I wanted to acknowledge someone like Amy. She’s the kind of superhero that I want to celebrate, because they’re everywhere.” The movie depicts her as a single mother of two with her own deadly heart condition, yet she still puts herself on the line. Cullen got away with his crimes for so long because the health care system and hospital administrations moved him between nine hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania despite suspicious deaths while in his care. The nurse killed patients by administering lethal doses of drugs like insulin. However, when he joined the same hospital as Loughren, she grew suspicious when detectives arrived to investigate an unexpected and unusual death.
