Genshin Impact Beats Wordle to be the Most Popular Game on Twitter

We’ve just passed the halfway mark in the year and Twitter has decided to do a spot of number crunching. During the first six months of 2022, there was approximately 1.5 billion tweets about gaming across the world and Twitter says Genshin Impact once again claimed the top spot for the Most Tweeted About Video Game, closely followed by Wordle.

Genshin Impact once again became the Most Tweeted About Video Game after claiming the title last year too. Keeping hold of the accolade is all the more impressive when bearing in mind the number of people who tweet out their Wordle results on a daily basis, something I may also be guilty of doing. Wordle is also the only game in the top ten to not have an official Twitter account.

Wordle and Genshin Impact both managed to get the top two spots on Twitter despite not being among the biggest conversation drivers, which fell into three different categories. The first was big game releases like Elden Ring, which pushed that game into the seventh spot. Then there were esports leagues like Call of Duty League, VALORANT Champions Tour, and Professional Gamers League Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, although the only one of those games to feature was Valorant in the ninth spot. Finally, there were global gaming events like Xbox Showcase, Playstation’s State of Play, and Summer Game Fest. Here are the top ten Most Tweeted About Video Games:

  1. Genshin Impact (@GenshinImpact)
  2. Wordle
  3. Ensemble Stars! (@ensemble_stars)
  4. Final Fantasy (@FinalFantasy)
  5. Project Sekai (@pj_sekai)
  6. Apex Legends (@PlayApex)
  7. Elden Ring (@ELDENRING)
  8. Fate/Grand Order (fgoproject)
  9. Valorant (@PlayVALORANT)
  10. The Legend of Zelda (@NintendoAmerica)

In other news, we’ve rounded up the best last minute Prime Day deals before they end today. Elsewhere, Bayonetta will be getting a physical release on Nintendo switch but it will only be available in limited numbers.
