Overwatch Currencies Roll Over

Overwatch Currencies Will Roll Into Overwatch 2, Loot Boxes Will Automatically Open

When Overwatch 2 launches into early access in October, Overwatch currencies will roll over into the new game. Players were worried their current currencies would become obsolete but it seems like the only thing that will be completely disappearing are the loot boxes, which will be automatically opened for players before launch day.

Existing Overwatch currencies like the credits, OWL tokens, and competitive points will be transferred with players into Overwatch 2 according to Overwatch Commercial Lead Jon Spector. The question was posed during a Reddit AMA, and a “more detailed explanation” of his answer is promised for some point before the new game’s launch in October. For now, he did say that the new Virtual Currency will be the main currency of Overwatch 2 and there will be some items in the new game that players will be unable to purchase with Overwatch credits.

The team is also aware that there are “a lot of players with many loot boxes stacked up” but players will not have to spend hours (in some cases) opening loot boxes themselves, nor will they have to worry about losing them and their contents completely. All unopened loot boxes that a player owns in Overwatch will be automatically opened at some point before Overwatch 2 launches on October 4. All of the contents in those loot boxes will be directly added to the player’s account. Spector did not elaborate exactly when this will be, but we can assume it will be part of the “more detailed explanation” mentioned above.

In other gaming news, more Ultra Beasts will be coming to three Pokemon Go Fest events being held over the next couple of months. Elsewhere, the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass will have four DLC waves starting on the day the game is released.
