Marvel Snap Announced

Mysterious Marvel Game Turns Out to Be Mobile Card Battler Marvel Snap

After teasing a new Marvel game for the last day or so, fans have finally found out what the former Hearthstone game director Ben Brode has been doing with his new company Second Dinner. Marvel Snap is the “fastest card battler in the Multiverse” and will be coming to mobile and PC platforms in the future. Players can even sign up for a closed beta on Android now.

What is Marvel Snap?

Marvel Snap is a collectible card game but where each game is a fast-paced battle that lasts for around three minutes. This is because both players are taking their turns simultaneously so nobody is waiting around. The aim of each match is to earn the highest number of cosmic cubes, and players who think they’re in a winning position can call “Snap” to double the stakes. Players battle their opponents over three locations and the winner needs to be successful at two of those. There will be more than 50 locations that each have game-changing features, including Asgard and Wakanda. New locations will be added weekly.

Players will build a deck of 12 cards consisting of hundreds of hero and villain variants taken from the entire Marvel Universe. For example, Iron Man will have classic comic, Chibi, 8-bit, and Cartoon variants. Each card also has a unique ability so players need to build their decks around characters that work well together. The game will launch with more than 150 cards and more will be added monthly as new seasons are introduced. While there will be microtransactions, the developer is insistent that a free-to-play gamer will be able to earn every single card through gameplay alone.

A closed beta will be starting soon on Android and players can sign up on the game’s official site. The beta will only take place in the United States, Canada, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand. Those selected to take part will be notified by e-mail.

In other news, Valve’s Steam Deck seems to have shipped with a device-bricking issue for some unlucky customers — it won’t turn on. Elsewhere, the Xbox Series S has outsold the PS5 in Japan for the first time ever.
