Elden Ring zip glitch

Elden Ring’s Newest Speedrun Record Broken With ‘Zip Glitch’

The Elden Ring speedrun time has been set smashed yet again, this time in a sub-9-minute run. Impressively, the record was set by speedrunner and YouTube content creator Distortion2 in just 8 minutes and 56 seconds, with him completing it by taking advantage of the somewhat complicated but game-breaking zip glitch

How to do the Elden Ring zip glitch

The Elden Ring zip glitch transports players to new areas of the game in a very short period of time, hurtling them through the air to their new destination without taking fall damage.

The zip glitch is inconsistent (and requires a stable 60 FPS) but, if done correctly, it can be performed by following these steps:

  1. Hold Block
  2. Wait for a window of 129–135 frames
  3. Slow walk forward or backward during a window of 4–10 frames
  4. Stop moving exactly on the 139th frame
  5. Input the movement key again when the idle block animation loops

The above was established via YouTuber Daravae, with there also being a number of additional variables. For instance, using the zip glitch on flat ground usually has the same results, while zipping from slopes can greatly increase the distance of how far the player travels. Distance is also affected by the length of time spent blocking before the zip, with more time meaning players will move a shorter distance.

Speedrun attempts have been a huge talking point for all Soulslike games, and Elden Ring has been no exception. Times of just under 50 minutes were achieved by Distortion 2 at the start of March, with their latest effort blowing that out of the water. The Elden Ring player also previously achieved the game’s first sub-20-minute speedrun later in the month.

Distortion2 now says he hopes to break the record yet again, aiming for a sub-7-minute time next attempt. Fans will be questioning how quickly some of these speedrunners can go and when the first sub-5-minute speedrun can be achieved.
