Xbox Series Sales Defeat PS5 Europe Consoles

Xbox Series Consoles Defeat PS5 for the First Time in Europe

A higher number of Xbox Series consoles has been sold in Europe than PS5s for the first time in Europe, according to the latest sales figures in a GSD market report. While hardware sales are generally down across the board in the continent, the Nintendo Switch still reigns supreme over its two higher-tech competitors as the console of choice.

How Xbox Series sales overcame the PS5’s

Whether it’s due to struggling supply chains during the pandemic or the difficulty in finding enough computer chips to manufacture high-end consoles, the Xbox Series X and the PS5 continue to grapple with maintaining a consistent level of stock, according to GamesIndustry. But because of the availability of the more affordable, lower-spec Xbox Series S model, the Xbox Series consoles as a whole has overtaken its Sony counterpart. That should put the Xbox Series sales in better context.

That said, the Nintendo Switch is still “comfortably” at the top of console sales in Europe, which is only down 14% compared to the same month last year. As expected, Elden Ring has topped the European charts, with the exception of Germany where Pokemon Legends Arceus holds the pole position.

More interestingly, it’s the PS4 which still holds a lot of power given the troubles with the production and distribution of the PS5. Almost 40% of all the sales for Horizon Forbidden West, which is second on the European charts in February, came on the PS4. Similarly, 28% of all of the sales for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which sits fifth in the game charts, were also on the PS4. Last but not least, the DualShock 4 controller was the best-selling accessory, above the PS5 DualSense and Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons.

In other news, Elden Ring has claimed the top spot in the US for games released in 2022. Both Microsoft and Electronic Arts have openly opposed the anti-trans legislation in Texas and Capcom has detailed the Sunbreak expansion for Monster Hunter Rise in a lengthy 20-minute presentation.
