Steam Deck Xbox Compatibility Halo Gears of War

Most Xbox Games Work on Steam Deck Except Halo

Xbox Game Studios has conveniently made a list of games which are compatible on Valve’s Steam Deck console, which is currently in the long process of verifying games for compatibility. Each developer within Xbox Game Studios will be responsible for making its games work with the Steam Deck’s Proton compatibility layer; that is, if they wish to have Steam Deck integration in the first place.

What is a Steam Deck GPU equivalent video card?

According to an official blog post by Xbox Game Studios, who believes that “people should be able to play [their] games as freely and easily as possible,” the following list (in alphabetical order) shows that most of their titles have already been marked as verified or playable with Steam Deck. However, a few key Xbox franchises are still in an unsupported state.

Verified to be finishable

  • Battletoads
  • Deathloop
  • Fallout Shelter
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Max: The Curse of Brotherhood
  • Prey
  • Psychonauts 2
  • The Evil Within

Playable

  • Fallout 4
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Forza Horizon 5
  • Quantum Break
  • Sea of Thieves
  • State of Decay: YOSE

Unsupported

  • Gears of War 5
  • Halo Infinite
  • Halo Master Chief Collection
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Unfortunately for the unsupported titles, their anti-cheat systems currently prevent them from being played on the Steam Deck. It’s unclear what will happen if you were to attempt to play the likes of Gears of War 5, Halo Infinite, and Halo Master Chef Collection on the handheld console.

However, if it’s anything like trying to play Destiny 2 on Steam Deck, it may result in a ban unless Windows is installed and running, according to Bungie. Thankfully, AMD has made it possible through its Windows drivers for users to install Windows 10 and remove SteamOS entirely, but that’s a lot of hoops to go through just to play those four unsupported titles on Steam Deck.

In other news, Microsoft has been rated as Metacritic’s Publisher of the Year, and Halo Infinite’s co-op modes has been delayed until late Season 2.
