The Lord of the Rings TV Sauron reveal might just have happened thanks to a mysterious character poster shown off on the show’s official Twitter feed. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Sauron first look is seemingly part of a massive thread of close-up character posters revealed for the highly-anticipated Amazon Prime show, which may have also shown off a young Gandalf too.
Lord of the Rings TV Sauron first look reveal in character poster
The official Twitter feed for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been tweeting out more than 20 character posters for the various people in the show, clearly showing a mixture of humans, elves, dwarves, and even possibly hobbits. While the posters are all in close-up and don’t show any faces, by far the most distinct is of a figure in black, spiky armor — that many fans believe to be either Sauron or the Witch-King of Angmar. Sauron seems the more likely, given the timeline of the show, and the armor matches the style of the Dark Lord seen in the movies or Middle-Earth: Shadow of War.

Another poster showing a figure in a grey cloak holding a mysterious broken sword is theorized to be a young Gandalf, as he first appears in Middle-Earth. The sword may well be Gurthang, the legendary blade that killed the giant dragon Glaurung and was said to have a will of its own.

The only other possibly identifiable character shows someone covered in gold, including their fingers — this is most likely Ar-Pharazôn the Golden, the last king of Númenor and ancestor of Aragorn, the only ruler to defeat Sauron in battle without aid but who became corrupted by the Dark Lord.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will launch exclusively on Amazon Prime video on September 2. For related news, Lord of the Rings: Gollum is still looking surprisingly good, and the creators of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor are making a Wonder Woman game.
