The status quo of Peter Parker in the MCU is now both wildly different and strangely familiar, and the ending even offers a tease of the Spider-Man 4 villain.

The ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home not only sets up the new status quo for further Spider-Man movies and the various characters but also offers a tease about the likely new Spider-Man villain: Venom — who will likely not be played by Tom Hardy and not be quite the same Eddie Brock character as seen in recent movies, such as Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
In the movie’s finale, the multiverse starts to crack open. Other Spider-Man characters can be seen through the cracks, such as what seems to be Kraven the Hunter and The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Rhino. To bring it all under control, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker asks Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to create a spell that wipes Peter Parker from everyone’s memories. After the villains and heroes are all returned to their proper universes, all the characters forget Peter entirely — including MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon).
Peter has the opportunity to talk to MJ but opts to leave her alone after he realizes how much she could get hurt if she gets close to him, like with Mary-Jane and Gwen Stacy for the other Spider-Men. Instead, like with Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, Peter resides in a small apartment listening to police activity. It is possible then that both MJ and Ned may not appear in the next Spider-Man movie.
As for the Spider-Man 4 villain, the mid-credits scene that follows brings in Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom. Although Brock is returned home before he can meet Spider-Man, a small piece of Venom symbiote is left behind — which crawls off similar to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. It is possible that it may infect either the MCU’s Eddie Brock or maybe even Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori), who inherits the symbiote in the comics.
