Tom Holland trolls Spider-Man fans by teasing ‘two very special friends’

A new Spider-Man: No Way Home Tom Holland video gives a massive Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield tease, or it is at least trolling fans. A Spider-Man: No Way Home Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire appearance has long been rumored for the Peter Parker actors from the pre-MCU movies, and now the movie’s marketing appears to be leaning into the rumors — but does it mean they are real?

A new Tom Holland video from Fandango to advertise that Spider-Man: No Way Home tickets are now on sale also trolled fans who are still expecting Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to show up in the marketing, let alone the movie itself. The video has Holland promising “a really big announcement” before saying “let me bring in two very special friends to help me out.” Those friends are then revealed as Jacob Batalon (Ned) and Zendaya (MJ), slightly underwhelmingly. After they introduce themselves, Holland says “who else would it be?”

Fans immediately worked out that this was a clear tease and then troll towards the long-standing rumor regarding Garfield and Maguire’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even Holland suggesting a “really big announcement” is a troll because ticket sales were confirmed for November 29 back when the second trailer dropped, so it’s not an announcement at all. Predictably, fans were both amused and upset.

Regardless, there isn’t long left before Spider-Man: No Way Home actually releases and fans can find out for themselves if the former Spider-Men are actually in the movie, but it certainly seems that way. It will definitely feature at least five returning villains from previous movies, anyway, and may even set up Miles Morales for future Spider-Man projects in the MCU.

Spider-Man: No Way Home releases on December 17 in the US.
