Few modern remasters have generated as much buzz as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition. However, while game fans expect updated visuals and special features, we also want remasters to stay as true to the original games as possible. In this case, there was some worry that the trilogy’s excellent music would be compromised in the years since release. Thankfully, Rockstar has confirmed that the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition will include the exact same songs and radio stations as the previous versions — and they’re newly remastered as well.
According to a press release from Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Edition’s soundtrack will “match the most recent release of the original versions.” In this case, those are the iOS and Android mobile releases launched in 2014. At the time, those games also had revamped visuals, plus touch-screen support. The PS2 Classics versions that launched a year later also included trophy support.
However, if you recall, the 2014 versions of the GTA Trilogy didn’t include all music from the original PS2 releases. Around 25 tracks seem to be still missing from the very original versions. Still, all considered, the definitive GTA Trilogy includes over 200 songs spread across the same 29 radio stations.
Even better, each game has been given a massive audio overhaul. You can expect 16-bit, 44hz quality and support for 5.1 surround sound for all in-game music and effects. That includes every song and radio station as well as ambient effects. In GTA, that’s typically gunfire and police sirens, but the new remaster also includes new weather and environmental effects.
In other words, you can expect the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition to showcase the exact same soundtracks found in the 2014 releases. Not all of the original PS2 music can be found here, but there’s still plenty of music on offer. Remember, if you’re interested, you’ll need to pick up the whole set, since these games aren’t sold aren’t sold individually.
