The Flash Red Death

The Flash movie director may be teasing Red Death as the villain

Is The Flash‘s Red Death villain being teased for the upcoming movie by its director? The Flash movie villain still hasn’t been revealed and most fans thought it’d be Barry Allen’s main adversary Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne, but a new tease from director Andy Muschietti has those fans thinking a more recent villain from the comics might appear instead.

Is The Flash: Red Death being teased as the movie’s villain?

The Flash Red Death

It seems very possible that Red Death could be The Flash movie villain, although there are theories to the contrary as Andy Muschietti’s tease could be for something else.

Andy Muschietti has been sporadically updating his Instagram page since June with close-up looks at the main characters in The Flash, starting with Michael Keaton’s Batman suit and moving on to Barry Allen himself and eventually Supergirl, although a better look at her costume was leaked anyway. Fans assumed the next tease would be either Ben Affleck’s proper DCEU version of Batman or Reverse Flash as the main villain. Instead, it showed the Michael Keaton Batsuit sprayed red with a Flash lightning bolt symbol on it, which fans immediately assumed was a tease for Red Death as the villain.

Red Death is an evil version of Bruce Wayne from a dark multiverse where Batman stole The Flash’s powers. He was introduced in the 2017/2018 Dark Knights: Metal storyline by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, has appeared in the DC Universe Online MMO, and was actually mentioned in a recent episode of The Flash TV series. If The Flash movie is indeed doing a Flashpoint-style storyline where Barry Allen goes into the multiverse, it’s possible Red Death could be the villain — especially with Batman being such a major character.

Of course, the other theory is that this is simply a temporary Batsuit that Barry Allen wears when he loses his original suit somehow, so fans will probably have to wait until DC Fandome next month to find out more.

The Flash movie opens on 4 November 2022.
