It’s been revealed that Battlefield 2042 will have a Portal mode, a game type where players can create their own sandbox experiences using maps, weapons, gadgets, and vehicles from four Battlefield games’ worth of content.
Which Battlefield games does Portal feature?
The Battlefield Portal mode will include content from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 2042. In total, that makes for four Battlefield games for players to mix and match content from.
Though likely planned for a reveal during EA Play, articles posted seemingly early by Game Rant confirmed the existence and details of Battlefield Portal. Though the developer had teased that older content could be making an appearance in BF2042, it’s unlikely that fans were expecting classic maps, weapons, gadgets, and vehicles to return on this scale.
This is good news for both veterans and newcomers. For the former, this is news of a huge nostalgia trip. For the latter, the map, weapon, gadget, and vehicle count has now been significantly bolstered. Perhaps this will make up for the missing story mode component.
The classic content has reportedly been rebuilt in the latest version of Frostbite. This means that, in theory, these maps should be the best they have ever been. They have been remastered, rather than simply ported across.
With passionate BF players more than willing to invest hundreds of hours into each installment, news of Portal mode’s huge array of content will no doubt be celebrated.
Expect to hear more about Battlefield Portal during EA Play. Here’s hoping DICE continues its spree of epic trailers!
