State of Play July 8

PlayStation State of Play coming Thursday, but don’t expect God of War or Horizon news

Sony has announced that it will be holding its latest PlayStation State of Play on July 8, this coming Thursday. It will be the first PlayStation livestream since Sony decided not to show up at E3 last month, so fans will undoubtedly be hoping for some big reveals. The only State of Play gameplay that will definitely be shown off is Arkane’s upcoming Deathloop, but sadly, there won’t be any State of Play God of War 2 or Horizon: Forbidden West announcements.

What will be at PlayStation State of Play on July 8, 2021?

State of Play July 8

Sony has confirmed that the biggest focus of this particular State of Play will be Arkane’s Deathloop, which is out this year and is in the weird position of being a PS5 console exclusive that will be published by Microsoft. The stream will show off around nine minutes of Deathloop gameplay, featuring one of the game’s two protagonists sneaking or shooting around Blackreef Island.

In addition to Deathloop, the 30-minute State of Play will also focus on upcoming indie and third-party titles, although Sony doesn’t say which games in particular. It certainly doesn’t sound like fans should expect first-party game reveals at the show, and Sony specifically says that two of the most exciting PlayStation exclusives won’t be there — God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West. However, it does say fans can expect “more updates” throughout the Summer on these and “the next generation of PlayStation VR.”

How to watch PlayStation State of Play on July 8

As usual, the State of Play July 8 stream can be watched on the official PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels. The show will last approximately 30 minutes, similar to previous shows.

The State of Play stream will start at the following times:

  • 2 PM PDT
  • 5 PM  EDT
  • 10 PM BST
  • 11 PM CEST

Hopefully PlayStation fans are ready to find out more about Deathloop in advance of the game’s release date of September 14, but any big third-party reveals will be welcome too.
