Elden Ring player choices

Elden Ring will have more player choice than Dark Souls or Bloodborne

It looks like Elden Ring player choice will have a lot more to offer than previous From Software titles Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. According to an update on the Elden Ring website, Bandai Namco confidently states “the choice is yours” along with new details suggesting a wide range of new gameplay and character options for the game. Here are all the Elden Ring gameplay details the website has revealed.

What Elden Ring player choice will the gameplay offer?

A load of new details about From Software’s eagerly-awaited Elden Ring dropped on the official website today, and while most of the information on the game’s lore and plot were already known to fans much of the detail on the gameplay is new — especially the notes about player choice in regards to that gameplay, which seems to offer more options than other From Software games.

The developer certainly seems to be aiming for players to build their characters however they want, with multiple gameplay options to choose from. Elden Ring boasts “dozens of skills” for players to specialize in, and they can “use the environment, the weather, and the time of day” against opponents in stealth or head-on in combat. There will be mounted combat, as revealed in the recent trailer, but also magic is available to learn. The note about the ability to “summon familiar spirits” also suggests the game will have invasions and co-op gameplay.

It’s perhaps the potentiality for story choice in the style of The Witcher 3 that is more exciting. The site notes that players will start out the same way “but you need not follow” the path set out towards stopping the Demigods. “The choice is yours. Do you crave power, or do you seek understanding? Decide for yourself, then build your character as you see fit.” It certainly sounds like there will be more than just gameplay choices here.

Elden Ring will be out in January 2022. It will have familiar Dark Souls features such as bonfire save points and even fast travel, but probably won’t be an actual sequel to Dark Souls or set in the same universe.
