Dark Souls 3 Servers

Dark Souls 3 Servers Back Online for PC, Dark Souls 2 and Remastered Servers Restored Later

Making good on its promise, FromSoftware has restored the Dark Souls 3 servers for online play on PC. Announcing the update on the official Dark Souls account on Twitter, the developer promises the online capabilities for Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls 2 will be reactivated at a later date. It’s taken nearly seven months for the Dark Souls 3 servers to be restored, but hopefully it won’t take that long for the other two games to return to the bonfire.

Bandai Namco asks for more “patience and support” for Dark Souls server restoration

Some fans reacting to the update are surprised that it took so long for Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to fix the exploit that took down the PC servers for multiple Dark Souls games. However, the issue was far-reaching and likely required a deep rewrite of the online code. On February 9, the developers took drastic action by shutting the servers down to prevent hackers from using a remote code execution (or RCE) to attack other players using malicious code. During the time, the team’s hands were full with the hugely successful launch of Elden Ring and asked fans to be patient as they “set up proper testing environments [and] online services for the Dark Souls series on PC.”

Since then, Bandai Namco quietly removed the “Online PvP” and “Online Co-op” tags from the Steam pages for Dark Souls 2, 3, and Remastered. In mid-May, FromSoftware made an additional statement saying that Dark Souls 3 would be the first of the games impacted to have its online services restored. During this restoration, the Twitter account understandable went dark, making no tweets since February 16, until today. At the time of this writing, the “Online PvP” and “Online Co-op” tags have yet to be added back to the Dark Souls 3 Steam page, but the servers should be functioning properly now.

In other news, a Pokemon Unite update will add Mew, Dodrio, and Scizor, and PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has found himself trending on Twitter as fans criticize him for the PS5 price increase for many countries outside of the US.
