Mario + Rabbids 2 was announced with a trailer at Ubisoft Forward E3 2021, with the upcoming sequel officially unveiled as Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. The original title was a big surprise when it was revealed E3 2017 as Nintendo is typically very protective of its IPs.
The zany mixture of Mario and Rabbids won fans over, and the Donkey Kong Adventure DLC gave Ubisoft even more to work with from Nintendo’s IP stable.

Who are the Mario + Rabbids 2 playable characters?
The Playable characters in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of hope include:
- Mario
- Luigi
- Peach
- Rabbid Peach
- Rabbid Rosalina
These characters were featured in its 3-minute debut trailer, though there is likely more to come given that the game was only recently revealed.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the best-selling third-party title on the Nintendo Switch, and we’d be surprised if the sequel didn’t replicate this success. The game was surprisingly “leaked” by Nintendo prior to the Ubisoft Forward conference, with the company listing the then-unannounced game on its homepage ahead of its reveal during Ubi’s presentation. However, now that the cat’s out of the bag, we’ve learned a bunch more about the surprising sequel to one of the Nintendo Switch’s biggest early games.
Creative director Davide Soliani is obviously very passionate about both the Mario and the Rabbids property, and so it’s exciting to see this crossover return. It has been confirmed that Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will launch on Nintendo Switch with a 2022 release date.
